What is ATABU?
ATABU is a union that fights to improve and protect your wages, rates of pay and conditions in the Transport, Aviation and Bus industries. A union is formed when a group of workers come together to form a group to collectively protect and improve their working conditions. 
ATABU is also an industrial association under the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth). The Fair Work Act defines “industrial association” as including:
“[A]n association of employees, or independent contractors, or both (whether formed formally or informally), a purpose of which is the protection and promotion of their interests in matters concerning their employment, or their interests as independent contractors (as the case may be).”
  ATABU is not a registered “Employee Organisation” under Fair Work Act, and we do not claim to be such an organisation (Employee Organisation). In the future we may apply to be registered as an Employee Organisation. However, such registration does not define what is or is not a union. A number of other unions have chosen not to become registered as an Employee Organisation. There are some rights that only attach to Employee Organisations. We do not claim to have such rights.

Purpose of ATABU:
To provide an association for employees, independent contractors and owner drivers in Transport, Aviation and Bus
industries and promote the rights, interests and welfare of these workers by upholding the rights of organised labour
and improve and protect the wages, rates of pay and conditions of members.
